German and Italian Steel Production Down

Germany produced 3.3 Mt of crude steel in January, down 1.4% year-on-year, according to the country’s steel federation, which cited a sharp rise in energy costs among the causes of this decline.

Italian crude steel production also fell, declining 3.9% year-on-year to 1.8 Mt in January, the lowest January since 2016, industry data show.
