Japan exported 34.4 Mt of steel in 2021, up by 2.3 Mt year-on-year and a three-year high, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation. Major destinations for steel shipments were China (5.1 Mt), South Korea (5.0 Mt), Taiwan (2.3 Mt) and the US (1.2 Mt). At 2.8 Mt, December exports were 0.3 Mt higher year-on-year.
