Russian Coal Shipments Up

Seaborne Russian coal exports increased by 10.7 Mt to 196.4 Mt in 2021 with steam coal (including anthracite and lignite) climbing by 9.0 Mt to 172.5 Mt and coking coal up 1.6 Mt to 23.8 Mt, according to IHS data. This corresponds with shipments to China rising substantially in 2021; steam coal jumped 12.9 Mt to 44.3 Mt and coking coal grew by 3.0 Mt to 9.3 Mt. However, exports of all coal types to South Korea and India fell by 5.3 Mt and 1.3 Mt to a respective 21.4 Mt and 6.6 Mt.
