Total world crude steel production reached 1,950.5 Mt in 2021, a 3.7% increase compared to 2020 and a new high, the World Steel Association reports. Strong annual growth in the EU (+15.4%) India (+17.8%), Japan (15.8%) and US (18.3%) countered contraction in China (-3.0%).
World crude steel production was 158.7 Mt in December 2021, a 3.0% decrease compared to the same time in 2020. Chinese production fell by 6.8% to 86.2 Mt. By contrast, output in the rest of the world increased by 2.0% to 72.6 Mt over the same period.
