Indonesia Announces Coal Export Ban

On 1 January, the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced coal exports would be banned during this month in a bid to boost availability for domestic power plants. There is speculation that the ban could be eased in the coming days although, as at 4 January, there has been no official confirmation. Indonesia exported 39.3 Mt of coal (including lignite) in October 2021, the most recent trade data available indicate.
