Indonesian Coal Export Ban Eases

In a sign of an apparent softening of Indonesia’s coal export ban, the country’s government has agreed 14 vessels carrying coal for export may depart once permits from authorities are received, newswires reports. A review of the ban is scheduled for 12 January with other options, such as a levy on miners, also to be considered. IHS reports an estimated 13-15 Mt of coal have been impacted by the ban since 1 January.
