Japan’s iron ore imports retreated to 9.4 Mt in December, down by 8.4% year-on-year, government data show. However, despite this weaker close to the year, 2021 iron ore imports were still up by 13.7% on the previous year at 113.1 Mt.
Meanwhile, the country’s coal imports slowed to a five-month low of 15.9 Mt in December, although still up by 3.5% year-on-year. At 182.6 Mt, annual coal imports were 5.1% higher than in 2020.
