South African steam coal exports (including lignite) climbed to an eight-month high of 6.2 Mt in November, but were still down 0.2 Mt year-on-year, IHS reports. There was strong growth in shipments to China (from zero to 1.3 Mt), but this growth was offset by steep drops to India (-2.3 Mt to 1.6 Mt) and other South Asian countries. South Africa exported 60.2 Mt of steam coal to all destinations in January-November 2021, down by 8.1 Mt on the same period the year before.
