Vale Restarts Operations in Minas Gerais
Iron Ore
Vale has “partially and gradually” resumed its operations in Minas Gerais state after heavy rainfall in early January caused disruption and forced stoppages, according to a 17 January statement. The company estimates an impact of approximately 1.5 Mt on iron ore production and third-party purchases. However, Vale reports rainy season disruption was already accounted for in its annual iron ore production guidance for 2022 which is maintained at 320-335 Mt. Other mining companies in Brazil also experienced disruption from the heavy rains.
