In April, South African seaborne coal exports fell 1.1 Mt year-on-year to 4.4 Mt, according to customs data. Shipments to Asia fell 2.8 Mt to 2.4 Mt, whereas exports to Europe reached 1.5 Mt from nearly none the year before. In the January-April period, total shipments to all destinations were 0.3 Mt above the year before at 21.2 Mt.

Seaborne exports of iron ore fell 1.6 Mt from the same month last year to 3.4 Mt in April, a further 2.8 Mt drop from the March two-year high. Shipments to Asia fell 1.3 Mt year-on-year to 2.3 Mt.

Combined exports of manganese ore and chromium ore also declined in April, to 2.2 Mt, 0.7 Mt below the same month last year.
