Indian imports of steam coal (including anthracite) plunged by 9.2 Mt year-on-year to the lowest monthly level since July 2021 at 7.5 Mt in January, according to IHS data. Shipments from Indonesia dropped by more than two-thirds to 3.1 Mt and imports from South African decreased by 0.7 Mt to 1.9 Mt.

Imports of coking coal also fell, down 2.6 Mt to 4.8 Mt, primarily due to lower shipments from Australia which dropped by 2.1 Mt to 3.3 Mt.
