Total US coal exports (excluding Canada) rose slightly in January compared to the same time last year to 5.0 Mt, with exports of steam coal up 0.3 Mt to 2.5 Mt, according to official data.

However, US coking coal exports fell 0.3 Mt year-on-year to 2.5 Mt in January, recording the lowest monthly total since August 2020 and the lowest January since 2016. Coking coal exports to China more than halved from the same period last year to 0.3 Mt.
