Global crude steel production totalled 142.7 Mt in February, down 5.7% from the same month last year, according to World Steel Association data. Chinese crude steel output fell sharply compared to February last year, with a 10.0% drop to an estimated 75.0 Mt. The EU and Japan also decreased, down 2.5% and 2.3% to a respective 11.7 Mt and 7.3 Mt. In contrast, India increased production by 7.6% reaching 10.1 Mt, and the US also climbed slightly to 6.4 Mt.
